Putting things in perspective
Last weekend we went to Montreal b/c the amtrak fare was only us$75 roundtrip (half price for kids!). Baoie has never ridden on amtrak before, and the same goes for us (Winnie, Ball, MuiG, KT, FM, and I). And FM and I wanted to see our friend and former co-worker Vivian, even though she is a Canuck. haha :)
So, on Saturday (we took the train all day Fri and left Sun morning), after visiting the Biodome at which time I was already a bit worried that someone would just walk off w/ our stroller full of bags and coats, we went to Chinatown to check it out, and buy some food for the trip back.
We rested on picnic tables lined outside a restaurant open to everyone. Some of us stayed w/ Bao who was sleeping on the stroller while others walked the perimeter to see if we would find anything interesting.
After snacking and resting, we got up to leave and we realized my backpack was gone ... yes, someone had swiped it by reaching over Bao's stroller without us noticing.
My first reaction was, oh no, my North Face! again!!!! then I tried to recall everything that was in that bag and how detrimental if they were in the wrong hands... (no, i had no nuclear bomb in there or anything).
This is what I listed on the police report:
-North Face Recon backpack ($85)
-Blackberry Curve 8330 ($150)
-Sony camera battery ($50)
-4 GB Memory Stick Duo ($25)
-Gorillapod tripod ($25)
-toys: 4 double-decker buses, 3 patrol cars, 2 bus stand and bus stop ($20)
-Anpanman bag ($10)
-LeSportSac Three-pocket bag with hearts ($15)
-3x 1 gb SD memory cards ($45) <-- at time of purchase, that's at least how much they were worth
-LeSportsac small make-up bag ($10)
-SanDisk 8gb micro-SD card ($25)
total of $460
well, most of the value was rounded up, since I don't really remember how much they were.
Other stuffs that weren't that significant which I didn't mention on the police report:
-lots of tissues and 1 roll of really soft toilet paper for my nose-blowing
-babywipes for the kids
-my favorite mickey mouse nail clipper from japan that cuts really well!
-bag of maxipads
-lots of cough drops
-RIBENA CANDY! from hk!!!
-muji pen w/ the piggy that kumifu gave me :(
-small mechanical pencil from japan
-coach cell phone strap attached to the lesportsac bag
-bao's garbage truck's cover <--i found it one day and have been holding it for him... it is so tiny that it could easily get lost...
-blue victoria's secret pink tote worth $19.50 but we got it for free... well, winnie did...
-bao's orange fleece hat from ivy
-2 tai pan bakery cards which i was too lazy to take out
-chapstick, hand sanitizer, lotion, hair clips, etc...
-brand new mini m&m's tube from hk
-buzz lightyear DS stylus and STAR DS stylus
-a pack of raisin bread for the kids
and most importantly
-a bag full of "wontons", that is, all the nose blowing i did in biodome and chinatown i had stored it in a bag, i hope they particularly liked that surprise! and get as sick as i am right now or even worse! humph!
but all in all, to put things in perspective, it's ok. it's not the end of the world, and it's only stuffs that i can easily replace, true, they have monetary value, but def replaceable. i don't think i'm angry, and not really that upset either, it happened already, there's no point getting upset about it. i'm just thankful to God that no one got hurt. since they had to reach over Bao's stroller to grab the bag, Bao could've easily gotten hurt, especially if we noticed it or something like that, as long as everyone is ok, it's ok. there's evil in this imperfect world that we live in, but we have much to hope for.
so, some things that worked out well even though this was an unfortunate event:
-usually, i keep too much crap in my bag, useless crap that i don't really need. but that morning, i actually took the effort to take out all the things that i don't need for the day, thank God i left katy's and my passports in the hotel!
-after a second lookie, which i don't usually do, i found my home keys along w/ my microsd card & reader which i have all my personal information which i would CRY if i lost it! normally i'd be too lazy to take it out, but somehow i did ... so now it is safe w/ me :)
-we had dinner reservations for 6pm, in the morning, i had already asked viv if it'd be better if we changed it to 7pm so we'll have more time--and guess what time we got to the restaurant after the police station! yup, 7pm!
-we had to ride the metro and there were 5 of us, so two trips each would be 10 total. but they only sold per ride, or 6 rides each time which would be cheaper, so we got 12 rides total, and had 2 left over--which i used to ride to and back from the police station! vivian came w/ me and she had her brother's card
-embarrassing pics of bao that i took a few days earlier b/c he was being bad, yes, that is naked pictures, but luckily i deleted them after showing it to his parents and winnie did say, you better delete it now! what if you drop your phone and some sicko picks finds it. <-- i guess she jinxed me!
-i had two wallets, one w/ canadian$ one us$. the us$ has a coin holder so that's where i put all my can$ coins. earlier that day, i had taken out my wallet to pay for something, since i was lazy, i wanted to put back the us$ wallet but didn't b/c i had the c$ coins in there... THANK YOU GOD! otherwise, i'd have to cancel all my credit cards and such...
lessons? trust in our Lord. even in unfortunate events, He's there for us and watches out for us despite our how we may feel about our circumstances.
